Terms of use

Last updated: 4 October 2026. By using StateOfZar you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

1. What StateOfZar is

StateOfZar is an information service that shows how South African prices change over time, using published sources. See the methodology for how data is collected and presented.

2. Information only, not advice

Everything on the site is general information. It is not financial, investment, legal, tax or purchasing advice, and it is not an offer to buy or sell anything. Prices are historical, may differ from what a retailer charges today, and may be averages that do not match any one shop.

3. Accuracy and availability

We work to keep the data accurate and cite a source for every price, but errors and gaps happen. The site and its data are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, and may change or go offline at any time. Check the original source before relying on a figure.

4. Using our content

5. Third-party data

Underlying figures come from publishers such as Statistics South Africa, the PMBEJD, the Automobile Association and Eskom. They remain the property of those publishers and are subject to their terms. StateOfZar is not affiliated with or endorsed by any of them.

6. Intellectual property

The StateOfZar name, wordmark, site design, card templates, code and compiled datasets are owned by StateOfZar and protected by copyright. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.

7. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by South African law, StateOfZar is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, the site or its data. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008.

8. Privacy

The public site has no accounts and does not ask you for personal information. Our hosting provider may keep standard server logs (such as IP address and pages requested) for security and operation. We handle personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013.

9. Changes

We may update these terms. The date above shows the latest version, and continued use means you accept it.

10. Governing law and contact

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Questions, corrections or permission requests: [contact email].
